Western Sydney University Student Union is governed by 11 Board members, a majority being students. Students are at the heart of every board decision, and their presence ensures the decisions are student led.
In the 2025 student elections the first six Student Director positions on the Board of Western’s Student Union were elected. Each year, three of these positions are up for election, so there’s always a mix of new and continuing Directors. This helps keep fresh ideas flowing while also keeping some continuity in leadership.
To kick things off in the first election for these positions, the rotation needed to start somewhere:
– The three candidates who got the most votes will serve the full two-year term.
– The next three elected students serve a one-year term, just for this first cycle.
In the 2026 student elections and beyond, three Student Directors will be elected to begin their terms Jan 1st in the following year; they will replace the Student Directors whose terms are due to expire the year the election takes place. From 2027 all Student Directors will serve two-year terms. Western Sydney University appoints three Directors who also assist the Student Directors to round out the board membership by appointing two additional External Directors.
